Dr. Cassandra Hansen

Instructor of Environmental GIS

Cassandra Hansen, Ph.D., is fulltime Distance Environmental GIS Instructor. Dr. Hansen teaches Mapping Science, Environmental Science, Cartography and Geographic Information System classes at Unity College.

Hansen has been teaching college-level classes for the past 13 years. She prides herself on being able to share the excitement of mapping with her students in the classroom and/or online. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. at the University of Nevada, Reno focusing on Atmospheric Rivers and Extreme Snowfall Events. She completed her GIS certification and undergraduate degree at Humboldt State University where she found her true passion for Cartography and translating complicated information into cartographically pleasing visualization resources. Hansen’s work has earned National Geographic mapping acknowledgements for her cartographic work. Hansen’s unique background has taken her around the country helping with the collection of data and database infrastructure for the creation of dynamic field maps used on wildfires for damage assessment.

When she is not teaching, Hansen is skiing, hiking or biking with her young family.
